I wanna make music. I wanna make music I enjoy. I wanna make music that I want to listen to more than any other music. I wanna be in my favorite band. I wanna write my favorite song. I wanna play songs people dance to with their best friend. Even if they’re the only ones who have ever heard it. I wanna know that regardless of income, I have succeeded because I am proud of the finished product. I wanna feel like I contributed, and that helped my fellow musicians contribute to their own success. I wanna get better every day. I wanna stand up for what is right. What is artistically virtuous. I wanna do music because I love it, and not because other people enjoy it. I wanna play music for me, and me only. I wanna have a career where any record sales is a happenstance, not because of marketability.

I am lucky enough to get to do all of these things. And I hope I always will.
